Requirements

Please note that this is an introductory course, covering the basics of RDM in the Social Sciences. If you already have some basic knowledge about RDM but are interested in how to write your DMP, we recommend you to take the course Creating Data Management Plans instead. If you already have basic knowledge on RDM but have a specific question about it, you can contact us directly via rdm@univie.ac.at.

Target audience

Researchers in the Social Sciences, doctoral students in the Social Sciences

Goals

Research data management is becoming increasingly important in all stages of the research data life cycle. Data in the Social Science encompasses a wide range of data from interviews and surveys to observational data, data in different formats and of both quantitative and qualitative nature. This workshop will provide an overview of research data management in the Social Sciences, and offer guidance on how to implement best practices in the entirety of the research data life cycle from planning to publishing. 

Content

The workshop will give a short introduction to research data management in the Social Sciences, focus on senstitive / personal data and present how to work with social science data, both quantitative and qualitative. Participants will be able to ask questions and discuss their specific concerns in smaller groups and the plenary session.

Preliminary information and technical requirements for participants:

You will need:

- A PC or laptop incl. a headset or headphones with an extra microphone, if possible a webcam.
- A stable internet connection.
- Recommended browsers: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari.
- Entering the webinar is possible 15 minutes before the training starts.

Teacher

Lisa Hirsch

Lisa works for AUSSDA - The Austrian Social Science Data Archive in the areas of data ingest and data preparation. She checks the quality of research data and is responsible for their publication. As part of the Infra4NextGen project, she organises and gives training courses in Open Science and data management and creates training materials that can be reused. Lisa has a background in political science and statistics, and holds a PhD in political science from Aarhus University.

Lukas Kraiger

Lukas Kraiger is the Data Steward for the Faculty of Psychology, where he also completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology. His research interests include longitudinal studies and research data management.
