For PhD candidates of the VDS-PhaNuSpo who started their PhD programme in March 2025 and have not yet attended an onboarding workshop.
Goals
This event is designed to provide valuable guidance on our doctoral programmes in Pharmacy, Nutritional Sciences, and Sport Science, as well as equipping you with the tools you need to become an independent early-career researcher.
It’s also a fantastic opportunity to connect with your fellow researchers, share experiences and gain insights that will give you the confidence and clarity you need to embark on your PhD.
Content
A) Interactive sessions, 9:00-13:00 with break

- To meet your fellow doctoral candidates.
- To get to know the doctoral programme and its milestones in year one.
- To learn more about the benefits and opportunities offered by the VDS-PhaNuSpo.
By Isolde Prommer (doc school manager), Jürgen König (doc school head) and a student representative.
- 10-13 hrs: Topics are
- Strategies for transitioning from a master's student to an early-career researcher.
- Group work on key challenges in this career phase, such as expectation management, research independence and navigating opportunities and challenges.
By Markus Böckle, an experienced coach, psychotherapist and researcher in life sciences.

Markus Böckle
Dr Markus Böckle works at the Karl Landsteiner Private University in Austria and is also a psychotherapist and coach. His education and research focus on an interdisciplinary approach combining philosophy of mind, evolutionary biology, cognitive biology, and acoustic communication. In his work as a coach and psychotherapist, he aims to understand self-efficacy and intentions during the therapeutic process, and their influence on treatment outcomes. He is also part of a research project team investigating mental health and coping strategies among doctoral students in the life sciences.

Isolde Prommer
Dr Isolde Prommer is the Executive Manager of the Vienna Doctoral School for Pharmaceutical, Nutritional and Sports Sciences (VDS-PhaNuSpo) at the University of Vienna. Trained as a landscape ecologist and regional planner, she brings her experience as a researcher in international interdisciplinary projects, project development and management, and organisational and administrative skills to the role. She gained these professional skills at the internationally renowned International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), the non-university research institution LBI for Human Rights (now LBI-GMR) and the Univ. Vienna's Research Center of Human Rights. Since autumn 2020, Isolde is committed to supporting the development of early career researchers, creating vibrant communities across disciplines and generations, and showcasing young scientists at the VDS-PhaNuSpo.
